and halted the Belapur-CSMT train he was piloting on spotting a bleeding teenager on the tracks between Sandhurst Road and Masjid stations on Saturday morning.

Motorman Nitin Kamble’s presence of mind ensured timely medical help to the boy who had severe head injuries and was bleeding. Investigations are on to identify the victim, who is around 18 years old, and find out if he had fallen from a train, said sources.

Kamble said at 10.20am, he spotted the boy on the Harbour line tracks. “I applied emergency brakes and the train stopped a few feet away from him,” he said. Kamble informed the train guard, Amit Mhaske, who, in turn, alerted CSMT railway officials. With the help of passengers, Kamble and Mhaske put the victim into a compartment and when the train reached CSMT, the teenager was taken to hospital.

CR’s senior PRO A K Singh lauded Kamble’s quick thinking. —Manthan K Mehta
