MUMBAI: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has defended its decision to build skywalks for the city.
Speaking at a joint press conference, commissioner RahulAsthana and additional commissioner Ashwini Bhide said that the skywalks playeda useful role in the city by providing access across busy streets at railwaystations.
Bhide said that although some of the skywalks did not haveas many users as expected, the numbers were bound to increase as more civicsense prevailed.
Out of the 58 skywalks planned, approximately 22were cancelled; a total of 36 skywalks have been built in the city and thedistant suburbs.
