MUMBAI: Students appearing for their MCom (semester IV) paper of Research Methodology on Thursday, at a college in Parel, were interrupted while writing and asked to leave. The students had not cleared their first year and hence were not permitted to sit for the paper. However, students in other colleges did not face issues and were allowed to sit for the paper.

Mumbai University had issued the hall tickets to all students on Monday. Later that day, the University re-issued a circular asking the colleges to not distribute hall tickets to students who had not passed their first year. An agitated student said, “I have cleared my Semester III. If this was the case, why did they issue the hall tickets for everyone? Why didn’t they stop my admission for semester III or IV? I requested them to let me sit for the paper even if it is not assessed, but they did not allow it. Even if they let me sit for the other papers, my year has been wasted.”
The principal of the college said, “I had received a letter from the principal of the students’ college asking me not to let students from that college sit for the paper. It was then that I asked them, and students from my college, who too had not cleared their first year, to leave. However, since there were no instructions from other principals, I let the other students stay,” she said. Controller of examination, Dinesh Bhonde was unavailable for comment.
