MCA relaxes rule for Aditya Tare and Bravish Shetty

MUMBAI: Showing magnanimity, the Mumbai Cricket Association ensured that the Dr HD Kanga League, which is enjoying its landmark 75th year, kicked off in the right spirit on Sunday, when it allowed two prominent players-former Mumbai skipper Aditya Tare and Bravish Shetty-to play for their clubs despite them not being able to register themselves on the association’s newly-introduced online player registration platform.

However, apparently some players still couldn’t turn out for their teams due to this registration issue.

Tare was leading Parsee Gymkhana against Karnatak Sporting at the Cross Maidan, while Shetty was captaining PJ Hindu Gymkhana at the Police Gymkhana.

“Tare and Shetty were unable to register themselves on the new platform. We Apex Council members, who were at the Police Gymkhana, took a unanimous decision on the ground to allow Shetty and Tare to play in the tournament as we didn't want them to miss out due to this technicality,” MCA treasurer Jagdish Achrekar told TOI.

Avasthi stars for Hindu Gym

Mumbai pacer Mohit Avasthi (5-14) helped PJ Hindu Gymkhana score a 32-run first innings lead win over Mumbai Police Gymkhana.
