MUMBAI: Azad Maidan police are investigating the theft of gold chains, mobile phones and some wallets worth Rs 12.4 lakh at the chief minister and deputy chief ministers' swearing-in ceremony held at Azad Maidan last week.
Thousands had gathered for the event, leading to significant security arrangements. To ensure safety, Mumbai police had deployed a force of 4,000 personnel along with additional security units. Despite the extensive security, the thieves took advantage of the crowds exiting Azad Maidan through gate 2.
"A probe is underway, and authorities are reviewing the CCTV footage and questioning witnesses," said a crime branch officer.
