MUMBAI: A man and his siblings have been booked on abduction charges by the Samata Nagar police after they tied up his wife, forced her into a tempo and drove away with her on Friday. The trio, Ghanshyam Yadav (35), Rajaram Yadav (32), and Rajeev Yadav (29), are all drivers by profession. The victim,
Shashikala, is Rajaram's wife.
Concerned neighbours lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday, fearing for Shashikala's life.
In their statements, neighbours said that Shashikala suspected her husband of having an affair with Ghanshyam's wife, Seema. The two quarreled several times over this issue. Rajaram decided to send his wife to her hometown, but she refused to leave their Kandivli home.
Around 8.45pm on Friday, Rajaram and his brothers tied Shashikala's hands and feet with a cord and gagged her, bundled her into a tempo and left the colony.
"We found the tempo abandoned at Tilak Nagar. Rajeev claimed that his brothers have taken Shashikala to their hometown. We are yet to ascertain Shashikala's whereabouts and whether she is safe," a police official said.
Mumbai: Three siblings have been booked by the Samata Nagar police on abduction charges after they tied a female family member, pushed her into a tempo and whisked her away. The trio, Ghanshyam Yadav (35) Rajaram Yadav (32) and Rajeev Yadav (29), are all drivers by profession. The victim, Shashikala, is Rajaram's wife. The families reside at Janupada in Thakur Village, Kandivli East.
Neighbours of the Yadavs lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday, fearing for Shashikala's life. The incident took place on Friday around 8.45 pm. According to statements given by the neighbours, Shashikala had a nagging doubt that her husband, Rajaram, was having an affair with his older brother, Ghanshyam's, wife Seema. Shashikala would regularly fight with her husband at home over her suspicion. Rajaram decided to send her back to their hometown in the north. But Shashikala was not willing to leave Kandivli.
Rajaram then got together with his brothers on Friday night. They tied Shashikala's hands and feet with a cord and gagged her. They then bundled her into the backside of a tempo and downed the shutters, before leaving the colony. Neighbours, who were worried that Shashikala was going to be killed, informed the Samata Nagar police.
"We found the tempo abandoned at Tilak Nagar. Rajeev has claimed that his older brothers have taken Shashikala to their hometown. We are yet to ascertain Shashikala's whereabouts and whether she is safe. Rajeev is being questioned," a police official said.
"Even if Shashikala was a part of the Yadav family, the brothers' act of binding her and whisking her away in a vehicle, against her will, amounts to kidnapping," said senior inspector Anant Kenjale.
