Mumbai News Live: City reports 1,034 fresh COVID-19 cases

Mumbai reported over 1,100 new COVID-19 cases for the second day in a row on Thursday, taking the tally to 3,22,843, while five more patients succumbed to the infection. With the new patients being more than the recovered patients, the number of active cases increased to 8,997 from 8,320 a day before. The number of COVID-19 vaccine beneficiaries in Mumbai has crossed the 2-lakh mark. In another development, a vehicle with gelatin sticks, an explosive material, and an apparently fake number plate was found parked near industrialist Mukesh Ambani's house in south Mumbai on Thursday evening. The BMC, with help from the police and Railway authorities, has launched a campaign to take action against people roaming without face masks in public places.

Mumbai police on suspect after SUV with 20 gelatin sticks found dumped near Mukesh Ambani's house
The suspect who parked the car (near Mukesh Ambani's house yesterday) was seen in CCTV footage but has not been identified as he was wearing face mask and his head was covered by a hoodie. There was no threat call or letter received by anyone with respect to Ambani family in recent past. Fuel price hike on hold for 3rd consecutive day
Oil marketing companies on Friday continued with their wait and watch strategy and kept the retail price of petrol and diesel unchanged for the third consecutive day. In Mumbai, petrol price is just Rs 3 per litre short (Rs 97.34 a litre) of touching three digit mark of Rs 100 per litre for the very first time ever. Diesel price in the city is closing on Rs 90 a litre (Rs 88.44 a litre).

People's mandate no licence to act irresponsibly: Sena on stadium renaming
The Shiv Sena on Friday targeted the Centre over the renaming of Ahmedabad's Sardar Patel cricket stadium after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the massive mandate that his government got in the last election was not a licence to act irresponsibly.It also said that although allegations were made against the Congress and Gandhi-Nehru family in the last five years that they are trying to obliterate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's name from history, the renaming of the stadium has shown who is actually trying to do so.
