Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, other ministers to get additional space in upcoming Mantralaya Annexe-2 building
Mumbai: With ministers and bureaucrats facing a space crunch in the existing Mantralaya building, the state govt has allotted additional office space for chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and other ministers in the new Mantralaya Annexe-2 building being constructed next to the main structure. The CM will get a 7,000-square-foot space on the first floor in the new building. Fadnavis already has an office in the existing Mantralaya building. The Mantralaya Annexe-2 building is expected to be ready by Sept this year. The new building will house two cabinet ministers—medical education minister Hasan Mushrif and public health minister Prakash Abitkar—along with 5 junior ministers—Pankaj Bhoyar, Indranil Naik, Yogesh Kadam, Madhuri Misal and Meghna Bodardikar-Sakore. "The public health department and the medical education department are functioning from the Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital campus in Fort. Since it is necessary to provide space to these departments in Mantralaya for the convenience of administrative work, they have been provided space in the new Annexe-2 building," officials said."Cabinet ministers will be provided with 1,600-1,700 sq ft of office space, while the MoS's will be provided with 1,400-1,500 sq ft of space. Apart from the ministers, officers and staff of the medical education and public health departments will be provided with space in the new building," officials said."While the CMO has 9,000 sq ft of space on the sixth floor of the main Mantralaya building, the first floor of the new building has been given to the CMO for CM's Relief Fund Room, Viksit Maharashtra unit, Cegis Team, Consultants and CM Dashboard etc," a Govt Resolution (GR) stated. In Jan, the state govt decided to reduce the height of a new building following objections raised by the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC). The public works department (PWD) had planned a ground-plus-seven-storey building, but MHCC objected to the height, saying the building is located in an Art Deco precinct. "The decision to construct an additional building was taken due to a space crunch at Mantralaya, where accommodating the council of over 40 ministers and their staff had become increasingly difficult," officials said. The PWD had floated tenders in 2025 to construct the building at an estimated cost of close to Rs 100 crore."The new building features modern amenities, like a dedicated entrance lobby for ministers, a spacious reception area, and a cafeteria. High-tech conference rooms are housed on the fourth and fifth floors. They will be accessible to various departments for official work," an official said.
