Mumbai: The Bandra court remanded lawyer Faizan Khan to 14 days of judicial custody on Monday, despite Bandra police requesting an extension of his police custody for additional questioning due to his lack of cooperation. Khan was arrested on suspicion in the alleged death threat to actor Shah Rukh Khan. The call was recieved on the Bandra police station landline.
Police said they didnot find connections between the accused and previous threats made to MLA Zeeshan Siddique and actor Salman Khan. Authorities found it peculiar that whilst Khan reported his mobile phone missing, he did not deactivate his SIM card. The timing raised questions as Shah Rukh Khan received the threat on November 5, three days after Faizan reported his phone missing on November 2. Additionally, the reported missing phone was an inexpensive basic model, which seemed unusual for Faizan, who comes from an affluent background and typically used premium devices. Police suspect he may have deliberately used this phone for making the threat.
Further suspicion arose when Faizan, upon being summoned to the Bandra Police Station on Nov 11, reportedly made various excuses regarding his safety and requested to be questioned through video conferencing instead of appearing in person.
The incident began on Nov 5 when the caller contacted Bandra Police Station's landline, demanding Rs. 50 lakh from Shah Rukh Khan and threatening his life. Subsequently, Bandra Police travelled to Raipur, Chhattisgarh, where they apprehended Faizan Khan on Nov 12.
