Mumbai: The V B Nagar (Kurla) police have arrested Sudish Hegde, owner of Hotel City Kinara, where a fire last month had killed eight people. Hegde had rented out the premises to Sharad Tripathi on a monthly rent of Rs 25,000.
Tripathi told the cops that Hegde had misused the space given for storage by building a mezzanine floor where the 8 people allegedly got trapped and died in the blaze.
Hegde appeared before the cops for questioning on Sunday when he was arrested. “Hegde had built the storage space and rented it out to Tripathi. Though he got BMC notices and was fined, Hegde did not change the constructions,” said Mahesh Patil, DCP Zone V.
