Bombay HC questions PIL seeking to restore name of Metro station

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Monday questioned as to why a PIL had been filed to restore the name of a station on the Mumbai Metro line 7 to Pathanwadi from Dindoshi at present.
“How do you come with a PIL? How is public interest served?’’ Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Abhay Ahuja said. A social organisation, Naee Roshni, had challenged the MMRDA’s January 2020 order revising the station’s name to Dindoshi.It alleged that it was done under pressure from MLAs Atul Bhatkalkar (BJP) and Sunil Prabhu (Shiv Sena).
The petitioner’s advocate Altaf Khan had urged the HC to direct the MMRDA to consider his client’s representation. The bench asked what is the right of the petitioner. “Show us your right and infringement for which the authority can be directed by us. Show us law being violated,’’ the CJ added.
When Khan referred to MMRDA’s July 2019 office order on naming stations, the HC said they were norms for administrative convenience and not enforceable.
