Gang from UP busted for thefts on Central Railway

The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Mumbai has successfully dismantled a Uttar Pradesh-based gang involved in stealing valuables from sleeping passengers on long-distance trains. Two individuals, Waqar Khan and Jugal Vishwakarma, have been apprehended, leading to the resolution of 16 cases.

MUMBAI: A UP based gang of thieves that stole valuables from the luggage of sleeping travellers in long-distance trains has been busted by the Govt Railway Police (GRP). Two men have been arrested and four others are wanted.With the arrest of the duo, 16 offences have been solved. Stolen gold and cash collectively worth Rs 22 lakh has been recovered. The two arrested accused are Waqar Khan from Gazipur and Jugal Vishwakarma from Kanpur. This is the first time they have been arrested. Police said the gang has been active for the past few years. Khan is the gang leader and used to rope in different individuals for different crimes. The latest offence was committed on a Coimbatore train on May 23 where a sleeping passenger was looted of Rs 3.5 lakh. The two accused were held from Kalyan. All the offences were committed on Central Railway under the jurisdiction of Kalyan , Thane, Karjat and Dombivali GRP police stations.
