Mumbai: Two weeks after Eid-e-Milad (Prophet Muhammad’s birthday celebrations), NGO Minhaj Interfaith and Welfare Foundation has organised a ‘Meelad Conference’ as part of the Prophet’s birth anniversary celebrations. Different faith leaders and intellectuals from Maharashtra will participate in the conference being held at Memonwada playground in Bhendi Bazaar on Saturday evening.
Local MLA Amin Patel will be the chief guest.
“Prophet Muhammad’s message of love, peace and harmony is universal. We want different faith leaders to share their views and dispel the atmosphere of mistrust and hatred,” said foundation’s director Rafique Ahmed Khan. He added that the venue at Bhendi Bazaar, a Muslim-dominated area, has been chosen to send out a message. “The faith leaders will jointly send out a message that we Indians may belong to different faiths but we are united,” he said.
Foundation vice-president Zubair Ahmed Ansari said the conference was aimed at uniting people of different faiths. “Prophet Muhammad’s message is not for Muslims alone. The faith leaders will underline the need to unite and promote peace and tolerance,” said Ansari. Non-Muslims have been invited to attend the conference. tnn
