Red alert issued
The IMD issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and asking citizens to stay indoors unless necessary.
Early morning downpour
Continuous rain from the early hours led to waterlogging in several parts of the city, disrupting daily routines and straining civic systems.
Rain eases, clouds say
Rain intensity dropped post-10 am, but dark clouds lingered. IMD predicted more rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds for the next 24 hours.
High tide raises alarm
A 4.75 metre high tide at 11.24 am added to fears of worsening waterlogging in coastal and low-lying areas.
Traffic grinds to a halt
Severe waterlogging forced road closures, bus route changes, and long traffic jams across key arteries like Parel, Sion, and Hindmata.
Train services hit hard
Waterlogged tracks on Central and Harbour lines delayed local trains; Western Railway ran mostly on time but with minor hold-ups
BMC on high alert
Civic teams remained deployed across vulnerable zones. Despite full operation of pumping stations, drains struggled to cope with the downpour.
Nariman point sees record rain
Nariman Point recorded 104 mm rain in just an hour (9–10 am), the highest so far this season, flooding the area and nearby roads.
