MUMBAI: A domestic help allegedly ran away with ornaments worth Rs 60 lakh from his employer’s jewellery shop at Worli, the police said on Wednesday.Suresh Jain (48), the owner of Sajan Jewellers in Worli, lodged a police complaint on Tuesday after he returned from a trip from Rajasthan to find a few ornaments missing from the shop, the police said.
The domestic help, Pravin Chaudhary (21), could not be found anywhere either, the police added.
No cash, however, has reportedly been stolen. Following the complaint, a case of theft has been registered with the N M Joshi Marg police station.Jain, who left the city on June 20, had reportedly left the key to the shop with Chaudhary. The police said they have started a search for Chaudhary, a native of Rajasthan, who had been working with Jain over the past two years.“A team of policemen is camping in Rajasthan. Since the suspect is originally from from Rajasthan, we think he will definitely visit his hometown. Based on our suspicion, we have deployed the force there,’’ said an officer from the NM Joshi Marg police station. A source said a few personnel have even gone to Chaudhury’s residence in Rajasthan and waiting for him there.“The jeweller, Jain, had left the city and gone to Rajasthan to attend a wedding. Before going away, he had kept the keys of a few lockers inside the shop itself and then gave the main key of the shop to Chaudhary,” said an officer, who is one of the members of the investigating team and is presently camping in Rajasthan. When he returned on Tuesday, he was shocked to see that gold ornaments, worth Rs 60 lakh, have been stolen. He could not even find Chaudhary anywhere.
