Dhere, Sovani named for Marathi literary awards

MUMBAI: Renowned research scholar R.C. Dhere and famed Marathi writer on science R.V. Sovani will be the recipients of the Maharashtra Foundation awards for Marathi literature 2000. The award ceremony will be held on December 28 at the Karnataka Sangh, Mahim, a press statement issued by the foundation on Tuesday said.

the award carries a cash prize of rs 2 lakhs and a plaque. the u.s.-based foundation selected mr sovani for this year's special award for his books on science and scientific reasoning in marathi. the award carries a cash prize of rs 50,000 and a plaque. in the magazine category, the foundation's award for the best reflective marathi periodical has been conferred on srustidnyan. as one of the respected science journals in marathi, srustidnyan , has been promoting science for the last 72 years. the foundation has awarded the publication rs 50,000 cash and a plaque. the foundation has constituted five awards for books in marathi literature and has selected tankat by rajan gavas, aatank by vilas sarang, karmayogi sannyasi by narendra chapalgavkar, shokatma vishvrupdarshan by s. r. gadgil and navratra by ashok chousalkar. each of the authors will be awarded rs 25,000 and a plaque.
