MUMBAI: Budding cricketers received an opportunity to train with ace players Tuesday. The coaching camp sponsored by a cola major was conducted at the MIG Cricket Club, Bandra. This was part of the recently launched Toyota University Cricket Championship (TUCC), which saw the best university cricket teams from across the country compete with one another.
The Coca-Cola camp coached young cricketers of the top eight teams from all four zones. In Mumbai the qualifying west zone teams were trained by former cricketer
Kiran More. He said, "Seeing the young guns on the field has given me a great sense of pride.
It was a rewarding experience. I believe that with the optimal amount of training we can produce world class cricketers. The training session has been a learning experience for me as well. I have been inspired by the enthusiasm and zeal of not just the young cricketers but the entire organising team."
Saurabh Netrawalkar, captain of the
Mumbai University team, said, "The camp is an incredible platform for my team and me. We earned a session with
Murali Karthik who is such a great role model for us. For aspiring cricketers to be given state-of-the-art training and coaching at this juncture is really crucial."
TUCC is an extension of the Rohinton Baria Tournament. The championship matches begin February 23. The top eight teams of Rohinton Baria will play at various university grounds and international stadia in New Delhi, Mumbai and Gwalior among other cities.
