In its December 7 edition, Mirror had reported the arrest of Shinde for allegedly killing the Kalyan resident, with whom he had an illicit relationship for the past two years.Shinde planned to get rid of 32-year-old Sultana after she pestered him for marriage.
The 49-year-old cop has been booked by the Manpada police under section 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence).
On September 13, 2015, the police had found an unclaimed body of a woman at a deserted location near Kalyan. They initially registered an accidental death report assuming it was a case of suicide.
The police launched a probe after the victim's mother identified the body and claimed that her daughter could not have committed suicide.
“After thorough investigation, it was established that the victim was killed by a head constable working in Thane crime branch who had an illicit relationship with her,“ said DCP (crime) Parag Manere.
