Mumbai: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail to builder Deepak S Kulkarni, director of DSK group and main accused in a case of cheating investors of thousands of crores of rupees, reports Swati Deshpande. Police had arrested him on February 17, 2018.
His advocate Aashutosh Srivastava pointed to what the apex court has held in the past of bail, not jail, being the rule and said the allegations were vague. He argued that Kulkarni had been incarcerated for almost four and half years, the probe is complete and chargesheet filed, and all properties already seized by the authorities. The trial has not initiated yet, said Srivastava. Rahul Chitnis, counsel for Maharashtra, had opposed the bail plea.
