Mumbai: Celebrities from the Hindi film industry stepped up to be counted as dutiful citizens at Wednesday's assembly election, living by example their call to Mumbaikars to vote.
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, a resident of Bandra Bandstand, went along with wife Gauri, daughter Suhana and son Aryan. His neighbour, superstar Salman Khan, arrived with full 25-30 member security escort. Salman's father, scriptwriter Salim Khan, held up his inked finger to the cameras.
Ranbir Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and wife Kareena Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, writer Javed Akhtar, son Farhan Akhtar and daughter Zoya, designer Manish Malhotra, and Aamir Khan's son actor Junaid exercised their franchise.
Senior celebrities Prem Chopra, Hema Malini, Rakesh Roshan, Jeetendra, Shubha Khote and Gulzar displayed the blue mark on their forefingers. Among youngsters Kartik Aaryan was a "proud voter". Akshay Kumar and Rajkummar Rao were among the early birds. Akshay appreciated arrangements for senior citizens.
Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, wife Anjali and daughter Sara also showed their inked fingers. "As an (ambassador) of the ECI, my message to people is to make sure to vote," Sachin said.
Actor-politician Urmila Matondkar posted her photo and urged citizens to vote for "yourself, your children, your society and your Maharashtra". tnn
