Body found in drum: Live-in partner held

THANE: The police on Friday arrested the live-in partner of a woman who was found dead inside a drum in a tenement in Diva three days ago.

The accused, Manoj Singh (35), was picked up from Nalasopara where he operated a massage parlour.

Singh

and the deceased, Neha Pawar, were in a relationship. However, differences cropped up and it led to strained ties.

Pawar

was reported missing since July 11. The police suspected that Singh had fled to his hometown in UP, but after enquiries it transpired that he had changed his appearance by shaving off his hair and mustache. “We also got a tip-off that he was residing in Nalasopara,” said an officer from the anti-extortion cell.

Four Aadhaar cards and eight SIM cards were recovered from Singh.

“Singh said that Pawar was demanding Rs 5 lakh. She threatened him with a police complaint if he did not pay up. On July 11, the two had a tiff and Singh slit her throat with a kitchen knife and put her body in the drum.
