Raymond Selected as Private Partner

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) finalised Raymond as the private partner to develop and operate a helipad at the Worli jetty under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with responsibility for construction, operations, and revenue sharing. ( PHOTO CREDIT: AI)

Jetty Redevelopment for Helipad

Raymond will redevelop the existing Worli jetty, originally built for coastal road works, into a licensed helipad, undertaking all architectural modifications, safety upgrades, and operational requirements mandated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). ( PHOTO CREDIT: AI)

Structural Changes and Safety Requirements

The jetty, initially temporary in nature, will be made permanent, with additional ramp access and safety features installed to comply with DGCA norms, ensuring safe helicopter landings and operations. ( PHOTO CREDIT: AI)

Operational Timeline and Management

The Worli helipad is expected to be operational within two years, subject to statutory approvals. Raymond will manage and maintain the facility, ensuring smooth functioning once all construction and regulatory modifications are completed. ( PHOTO CREDIT: AI)

5/7

Revenue Sharing Agreement

Under the PPP arrangement, Raymond will share 50% of landing fee revenue with BMC or provide a minimum guarantee of Rs 4 lakh per month, whichever is higher, ensuring a steady income stream for the civic body.

6/7

Strategic Significance of the Helipad

The Worli helipad is planned to replace operations at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, which is being redeveloped. It will facilitate VIP landings and serve as a critical facility for air ambulances and emergency helicopter operations.

7/7

Future Coastal Road Expansion Potential

Officials noted that the helipad near the Worli jetty complements the ongoing coastal road projects. The area provides sufficient space for helicopter landings, making it a key emergency and transport facility in the expanding urban corridor.
