BJP MLA demands third-party quality and safety audit of entire Metro 4 after complaints

Mumbai: BJP MLA from Mulund, Mihir Kotecha, said he received around 500 complaints from citizens following the Metro Line 4 slab collapse incident. He has now demanded a third-party quality control and safety audit of the entire Metro Line 4 structure."There is fear amongst citizens. Following Saturday's parapet collapse incident, residents sent me photographs highlighting visible alignment issues, gaps, and level differences in the parapet walls of the elevated corridor. Close to 500 similar images were forwarded to me, as well as to the T-Ward Disaster Management team, by citizens," said Kotecha. He demanded strict action against consultants and auditors found responsible for lapses.On Wednesday, Kotecha inspected sections of Metro Line 4 along the LBS Marg in Mulund, along with MMRDA, T-ward officials and corporators.Kotecha said during inspection officials acknowledged minor technical and finishing defects, particularly in parapet wall alignment but maintained the structure was 100% safe and that stability was not compromised. He said the govt released full payment to contractors as per agreements and therefore, a comprehensive third-party quality control and safety audit of the entire Metro Line 4 corridor must be conducted.He urged MMRDA to conduct GIS tagging of the identified locations and to issue a detailed technical advisory with photographic documentation. "It will help in reducing fear from the minds of people," he said.
