NEW DELHI: Law enforcement officials in Maharashtra's Palghar district conducted a successful operation leading to the confiscation of unlawful tobacco items valued at more than Rs 15 lakh, resulting in one arrest, as reported by an official on Friday.

The operation took place in Talasari area on Wednesday, according to the official.

A patrol unit, acting on suspicions of illicit transportation, inspected a stationary tempo on a service road adjacent to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, discovering prohibited tobacco items, as stated by Palghar Rural Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil.

The seized tobacco products were assessed at Rs 15.66 lakh, and authorities impounded the tempo whilst taking its driver into custody, Patil added.
