MUMBAI: Santacruz police on Sunday arrested another member of the gang which duped a builder to the tune of Rs 3 crore under the pretext of exchanging old denomination notes with new ones.
Police recovered Rs 68 lakh from the accused, Manju Nath. With this, the total recovery touched Rs 2.35 crore. Like the other accused, Nath, a resident of Dombivli, is in the catering business. "Nath and Amin posed as bankers, while other three were middle men, who fled with Rs 3 crore belonging to the builder, Sanjay Naik," said an officer.
Mali was suspended on Friday after Naik accused him of aiding and abetting the crime. Police commissioner

ordered a departmental inquiry. Though Mali's role has not been established, prima facie Mali failed to explain why he went to

, where the accused hatched the plot to dupe Naik.
Naik on Thursday filed a complaint that he was duped by
Mahesh Sawant
and his associates. Naik alleged that he met Sawant through a common friend, who said he knew bankers who would exchange his old notes on commission basis.
