Mumbai: With Reliance chairman Dhirubhai Ambani’s condition remaining unchanged, a “Mahamrityunjay Jaap’’ (puja for victory over death) was performed by priests at the famous Mahakal temple in the temple town of Ujjain, for his speedy recovery.
Chairman of Mahakal Mandir Trust and district collector Bhupal Singh said that Mr Ambani’s family members had contacted the priests for performing the ceremony.
A similar ceremony was also organised in Mumbai by the Mumbai Textile Merchants’ Mahajan, the 120-year-old cloth merchants’ association. The Mumbai ceremony was performed by 23 pandits who chanted 1.25 lakh jaaps.
Under the Jaap, which is performed for a person who is seriously ill, the “Mahamrityunjay Mantra’’ is recited either 11,000 or 21,000 times to defeat the hovering wishes of Yamraj, the god of death.
Meanwhile two ministers from Gujarat, Chiman Bhai Saparia, minister for road and building; Mohanbhai Kundaria, rural development minister; Upendra Trivedi deputy speaker of the Gujarat assembly, and Jayvanti Bhen Mehta, Union minister for state for power, visited Breach Candy Hospital.
