MUMBAI: The Ajit Pawar group of the
NCP on Friday filed separate applications before the legislature secretariat for disqualification of 10 members of the legislative assembly and three members of the legislative council belonging to the Sharad Pawar faction.
Sunil Tatkare, state NCP president of the Ajit Pawar faction, confirmed to TOI on Friday that his party has moved the legislature secretariat for disqualification of 10 assembly and three council members for breach of rules.
“We have submitted separate petitions for disqualification of legislators of the Sharad Pawar faction as per the provisions of the anti-defection law,” he said.
The 10 assembly members named in the plea are state NCP (Sharad Pawar group) president Jayant Patil, Jeetendra Awhad, Rohit Pawar, Suman Patil, Anil Deshmukh, Rajesh Tope, Balasaheb Patil, Prajakt Tanpure, Sunil Bhusara and Sandeep Kshirsagar. Those from the council named in the other plea are Shashikant Shinde, Arun Kaka Lad and Eknath Khadse.
The decision of the Ajit Pawar group to launch disqualification proceedings assumes importance as the Sharad Pawar faction has already launched such proceedings not only against Ajit but against all those party leaders who joined Ajit’s camp.
The Ajit group has already moved the Election Commission of India, saying it should be declared as the real NCP and the party symbol (watch) should be allotted to it. The Sharad Pawar faction too has knocked at ECI’s doors, arguing the Ajit faction’s application be rejected as there is no split in the party. ECI will hear contentions of both factions on October 6. But ECI has observed that there is a split in the NCP.
