5 booked for car stunt on newly built flyover
Kalyan: Acting on viral videos circulating on social media, Vishnunagar police in Dombivli have booked five motorists for rash driving, overspeeding and performing dangerous stunts on the Mothagaon–Mankoli flyover in Dombivli.The incident were reported on January 26, when several vehicles were seen racing at high speed and indulging in risky manoeuvres on the newly constructed Mankoli flyover, posing a serious threat to commuters.The video was first circulated by BJP's corporator Dipesh Mhatre from Mankoli region who demanded strict action against those violating traffic norms which later gone viral on social media. Following the circulation of the video clips, on instructions of DCP Atul Zende local Vishnunagar police, along with the city traffic branch of the Dombivli division, traced the vehicles and initiated legal action under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Maharashtra Police Act.In one case, the driver of a Thar Jeep identified as Piyush Mhatre (21), was booked and fined Rs 1,500, while an additional compounding amount of Rs 3,500 was recovered. The police also booked another driver of a Hyundai Verna (MH05-GD-0049), Vedant Mahesh Sawant (18) and Pradeep Dhakne (21), driver of Scorpio (MH05-CV-3988) for racing and reckless driving. In addition to this police booked two others Vishal Vishwakarma (22) and Krishna Vishwakarma (19) for making video of stunt of race.
All five youths against whom action was taken comes from well to do family in city whose parents mostly involved in construction business. Police officials warned that rash driving and stunts on flyovers can lead to fatal accidents. Citizens have been urged to strictly follow traffic rules, with authorities stating that such violations will invite stringent action in the future.
