300 IIT-Bombay volunteers clear 1.5 metric tonnes garbage near Powai lake

Around 300 volunteers from IIT-Bombay cleared around 1.5 metric tonnes of garbage along a stretch of 1.5 Km on the Powai lake on Sunday. This was the second edition of their clean-up and awareness campaign initiated early this year. In June, over 400 volunteers helped in cleaning garbage as part of the drive.

MUMBAI: Around 300 volunteers from IIT-Bombay cleared around 1.5 metric tonnes of garbage along 1.5 Km-long-stretch near the Powai lake on Sunday. This was the second edition of their clean-up and awareness campaign initiated early this year. In June, over 400 volunteers helped in cleaning garbage as part of the drive.
Post the clean-up drive, BMC officials spoke about their plans to separate solid waste going into the lake.

The drive was a collaborative effort by Abhyuday, IIT-Bombay’s social body and BMC. The campaign was aimed at cleaning Powai lake banks to promote a cleaner, greener and healthier environment.
