MUMBAI: Special Intelligence and Investigation Branch of Customs arrested Ahmedabad businessman Vinay Patel for import of around 3 kg of marijauna from Chicago through courier.
On June 2, officials intercepted a parcel in the name of Malaya Nayak. Examining the parcel resulted in recovery of 1.7 kg of green plant purportedly to be marijuana, seized under provisions of NDPS Act. It intercepted a similar parcel for Vinay Patel, also from Ahmedabad.
Examining the parcel resulted in recovery of 1.3 kg of green product purportedly to be marijuana. Both parcels were of the same syndicate. The Mumbai team and Ahmedabad officials searched Nayak’s and Patel’s residences in Ahmedabad but nothing incriminating was found. Nayak said he had given his address in good faith to Patel for import of chocolates and candies.
