MUMBAI: A 13-year-old girl collapsed on stage while dancing at a competition organized by the BJP at Kandivli (West) on Tuesday. Anisha Sharma, a class VII student, lived in Kandivli with her parents. Doctors said the cause of death can be ascertained only after an autopsy on Wednesday.

The competition 'CM Chashak' was organised for various performing arts at Ekta Nagar in Kandivli (West). Anisha had enrolled in the dance category. The event started around 1.30pm and organisers claim they had provided for a lunch break.

Anisha took to the stage in the evening. Witnesses said she had barely performed for 30 seconds when she lost consciousness and collapsed on stage. Her family rushed her to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital at Kandivli. Doctors said she was pronounced dead before admission. The teen's father, Bharat, was inconsolable.

"It is not clear if the girl was suffering from a previous ailment. We are making inquiries," an official from the Kandivli police station said. A case of accidental death has been registered. Officers are verifying allegations that some of the children had not eaten their meals. "Anisha was brought dead to the hospital and her body will be sent for an autopsy," said Dr Pradeep Angre, medical superintendent of Ambedkar Hospital.
