Woman gets 10yrs in jail for abetting husband’s suicide

Bijnor: A district and sessions court in Moradabad has sentenced a 25-year-old woman to 10 years in jail for abetting the suicide of her 29-year-old husband in 2020.
According to additional district govt counsel (ADGC) Suresh Singh, Munish Sharma, a restaurant manager, married Mohini on May 6, 2019. Shortly after, Mohini had a dispute with her in-laws, prompting the couple to move into a rented house. Their relationship deteriorated following the death of their newborn son, who suffocated during breastfeeding.
"The woman and her father falsely accused Munish and his family of killing the child in a police complaint. However, an autopsy confirmed the actual cause of death, and Mohini later apologised for the false allegation. Despite this, tensions between the couple continued to rise," the ADGC said.
On Sep 5, 2020, Munish consumed poison and died. Mohini fled the scene but was arrested three days later. Based on a complaint from the victim's father, Satyanarayan Sharma, she was charged under IPC Section 306 (abetment of suicide) for allegedly subjecting Munish to severe mental distress.
"Mohini was granted bail, but court proceedings continued. On Wednesday, the court convicted her of inciting her husband to kill himself and sentenced her to 10 years in prison, along with a fine of Rs 10,000," the ADGC said.
