BENGALURU: Police arrested a couple on charges of duping over 50 persons of Rs 2 crore under the pretext of getting them employment visas to different countries.
The accused are Saklain Sultan, 34, and his wife Nikhita Sultan, 28, from Tilaknagar. Police recovered one SUV, one sedan, two motorbikes, 24 grams of gold and Rs 66 lakh in cash from the couple, who had got married in mid-2023.
Police investigation revealed Saklain posted on Facebook that he helps in obtaining visas to Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, France and Gulf countries for jobs like jockeys, riding boy, horse groom, barn manager and horse trainer.
In 2023, one Mag Singh from Mico Layout approached Saklain, seeking his help for visas for his friends. "Saklain got the visas for Singh's friends, who flew to Japan and New Zealand. Saklain charged each of them Rs 8 lakh," a cop said.
Thinking Saklain could get more employment visas, Mag Singh promised 51 men that he would get them employment visas and took around Rs 2.6 crore from them, handing over the same to Saklain. "Saklain had a contact with a jockey who'd helped him in getting the first two visas. He earned around Rs 1 lakh in the business. However, the jockey could not arrange employment visas for the other 51 persons due to the large number of aspirants," police said.
"The couple flew to Dubai and Sri Lanka, using the cheated money. Also, they leased a duplex house for Rs 50 lakh and lived a lavish life," the cop added.
