MEERUT: An UP police constable allegedly shot his wife in the leg after a heated argument broke out between the couple at their house in Bulandshahr on Sunday morning.
ASP (Bulandshahr) Anukriti Sharma said, "Vinod Kumar, 35, currently posted at Soron police station in Kasganj district, had come home on a two-day leave. After an altercation with his wife Sangeeta Rani, 30, he shot her in the right thigh with his licensed pistol. He was arrested on Monday and the weapon has been recovered. A case under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) has been registered against him and he was sent to jail after court orders."
Sangeeta, who is currently admitted at a local hospital, said, "My husband came back home drunk at around 3 am and started abusing me. When I objected, he pulled out his gun and shot me in the leg in front of my four-year-old daughter. Thereafter, he fled, leaving me bleeding. My family took me to the hospital."
