Robbery-cum-murder in Meerut: No sign of breakthrough yet
MEERUT:
“We suspect role of an insider in the incident but can't say anything with certainty as of now. We have interrogated 17 people in the case, most of who are either relatives or are close to the family," said Akhilesh Narayan Singh, SP (city) Meerut.
On Sunday, 38-year-old Mohit Madan was brutally strangled and later hanged by two unidentified assailants who decamped with cash and jewellery.
Apart from the fact that assailants were served water which explains the smooth entrance into the house, they were also well aware of the whereabouts of other family members of the deceased," a source in the police department said.
Postmortem report of the deceased trader revealed that he was strangulated before he was hanged from the ceiling.
The murder mystery has kept the local police on its toes which are still wondering why the assailants chose to hang the body when they had already killed the trader.
According to the police deceased wife was on a trip to Goa while his father was at the local provision store and mother was out for shopping when the incident happened. "We are not ruling out any possibility. The investigation is still underway and we are trying to narrow down to the murder motive to trace the real culprit," SP (city) said.
