Meerut: In a viral CCTV footage, three masked men could be purportedly seen ransacking a shop and decamping with valuables after pinning down the owner at gunpoint at a busy marketplace in Baghpat's Chhaprauli region.
The incident occurred at around 9:30 pm on Wednesday when the 50-year-old cloth merchant, Prakash Chand Jain, was at the shop with his son Ashish.
"Three goons came on the pretext of buying a sheet of cloth and the moment I stood up to get it, two of them in masks held my son hostage while the third one pulled the shutter down. They first thrashed us and later pinned me down before ransacking the place for cash. They grabbed whatever they could including my mobile phone and demanded a monthly ransom before escaping," Jain said.
ASP Baghpat, Manish Mishra said, "We have constituted multiple teams to nab the culprits. CCTV footage of the area is being scanned to trace their movement. We have a few leads already. Our investigation is on and culprits will be nabbed soon."
On Thursday, the entire market remained shut amid protests.
