additional district judge Bijnor

on Tuesday awarded life sentence to a man for murdering the husband of his lover.

According to assistant district government counsel Rajendra Sharma, “The murder of Mohammad Zulfikar was committed on July 19, 2015.”

A painter by profession, Zulfikar worked in

Dehradun

. He had come to his home in Rangharpura village of Kiratpur area in Bijnor on Eid when he was shot dead. His body was found on Eidgaah road.

“The deceased’s wife, Mehraj had registered a case against unidentified persons in Kiratpur police station. During the investigation police found Shahzad of Rajopur village and deceased’wife Mehraj involved in the murder. Police filed a charge-sheet against both Shahzad and Mehraj. The wife of the deceased had illicit relation with Shahzad. This led to confrontation between Shahzad and Zulfkar. When Zulfikar opposed their relationship, Shahzad got enraged and killed him,” Sharma said.

Giving more details, he said, “The case was pending in the court for the last four years. Shahzad is lodged in Bijnor and Mehraj is out on bail. On Tuesday, additional district judge Sunil Kumar Pancham held Shahzad guilty of killing Zulfikar and awarded him life imprisonment. A fine of Rs 20,000 was also slapped.”

Mehraj was acquitted because of lack of evidence.
