Muzaffarnagar: A video of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha taking out a 'tiranga yatra' on Independence Day with a portrait of Nathuram Godse went viral on social media on Tuesday. The video was purportedly shot in Muzaffarnagar.
Lokesh Saini, district president of the Hindu Mahasabha, said, "We live in India, where people worship both Lord Ram and Ravan. Godse is our idol. What is wrong with us displaying his picture? We also displayed a picture of Shaheed Bhagat Singh."
Yogendra Verma, the national executive president of the Hindu Mahasabha, said, "A tricolour yatra was organised by us on August 15. We used many photos of revolutionaries, including Godse. He only killed Mahatma Gandhi because of the latter's policies."
He added: "Some believe in Gandhi, some in Godse. The Hindu Mahasabha considers Godse their messiah, a true patriot. We also put up pictures of revolutionaries such as Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Yogi Digvijay Nath, Rani Laxmibai, and Subhash Chandra Bose."
