BIJNOR: A high-tension fire fell into a sugarcane field, killing the farmer who was at work. His 16-year-old daughter who was with him also suffered severe burns. The sub-divisional magistrate has announced a compensation of Rs 8 lakh for the farmer’s family.
Station officer Chandpur RR Katheria said, “Ram Chandar, a resident of Sundara village, had gone to work in his field on Sunday morning.

Around 11 am, an overhead high-tension wire snapped and fell into the field and Ram Chandar died of electrocution. His 16-year-old daughter Poonam was with him in the field at the time and she suffered burns as well. She was taken to the hospital, where doctors say she is out of danger. Ram Chandar’s body has been sent to district hospital for a post-mortem.”
SDM (Chandpur) Rakesh yadav said, “The family of the deceased Ram Chandar will get Rs 5 lakh under an insurance scheme for farmers. The administration will give another Rs 3 lakh as compensation.”
