Elderly couple found dead in Bijnor village; probe on
Bijnor: A 70-year-old man and his 68-year-old wife were found dead in Masuri village, under Kotwali Dehat police station area, on Tuesday night, with authorities probing whether it was a murder or an accident.Jeeraj Singh and Ramrati lived in a farmhouse on the outskirts of the village. Villagers said a power outage occurred around 10pm. Later, a local resident spotted Jeeraj lying unconscious on the road. His sons, Bilendra and Dinesh, rushed him to hospital, but he died on the way.Ramrati was found dead inside the house, lying on a cot.Jeeraj had head injuries, raising suspicion that he may have confronted someone and attempted to chase the suspect. Family members alleged the couple could have been targeted for robbery, noting he had recently withdrawn Rs 75,000 for a relative's wedding. However, the cash was found in the house.Police teams, including circle officer Anjani Chaturvedi and SHO Vikas Kumar, reached the spot and sent the bodies for postmortem. ASP (Rural) Prakash Kumar, who also inspected the scene, said, "A transformer near the house is part of the inquiry, with suspicion that a heavy metal object from it might have fallen and struck Jeeraj." He added Ramrati could have died due to shock.The family has lodged a complaint alleging foul play. Police have registered a case and said further action will depend on the post-mortem findings.
