MEERUT: With police yet to file a charge sheet against suspended executive engineer Anuj Singh, the official has now approached the Meerut Cantonment Board (MCB) seeking reinstatement. He claimed that, as per MCB rules, he is eligible to join the service as three months have passed since he was released from prison.
Anuj Singh was arrested in July, 2016, after four persons were killed in a demolition drive ordered by the Allahabad high court.
Though Singh was initially booked under section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code, the charges were later modified to section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
Pankaj Pant, station officer of Sadar Bazaar, said, "We are in the process of collecting evidence. The charges have been changed from section 302 to 304. However, it will be finalised only when the charge sheet is filed."
Meanwhile,Singh has written to the MCB seeking reinstatement citing the lack of a charge sheet as the prime reason.
The MCB officials said that they will consider Singh’s representation. “We have asked the Sadar Bazaar police for a status report and once we get that, we will call a special board meeting to consider Singh’s demand,” said MA Zafar, media officer, MCB.
