BIJNOR: Eight persons, including
BJP’s Bijnor MP Kunwar Bhartendra, Moradabad MP Sarvesh Kumar and Badhapur MLA Sushant Kumar, have been booked for violating model code of conduct for holding public meeting without permission. All these leaders were campaigning for the party in Noorpur assembly constituency which goes to bypoll on May 28.
According to officials, BJP leaders were canvassing on Saturday evening for Avani Singh, BJP candidate from Noorpur seat.
In the meanwhile, their convoy reached Gohaway village and a public meeting was also held there. When BJP leaders started addressing the gathering, somebody informed the poll observer alleging that meeting was being held without permission and BJP leaders were violating code of conduct there.
After getting the information, the observer directed local police to look into the matter. Police rushed to the scene and found the information correct and made a video of the public meeting.
Later, on Sunday evening, a case was lodged against BJP’s Bijnor MP Kunwar Bhartendra, Moradabad MP Sarvesh Kumar, Badhapur MLA Sushant Kumar, chairman of district panchayat board Sakendra Pratap Singh and convenors of the meeting, namely Abhishek, Ashok Kumar, Yashpal Singh and
Suresh Kumar, for flouting code of conduct during by polls.
Noorpur station house officer Suman Kumar Singh confirmed that a case was registered against two MPs, one MLA and five others for violating code of conduct. The meeting was organised without getting permission from the authority concerned.
On being asked about the matter, BJP MP Kunwar Bhartendra said, “Moradabad MP Sarvesh Kumar, Badhapur MLA Sushant Kumar, district panchayat board chairman Sakendra Pratap Singh, some others BJP leaders and I were canvassing for BJP candidate Avani Singh. We had covered 13 villages on Saturday. When our convoy reached Gohawar village, our supporters gathered there after hearing the news of our arrival. We were urging them to cast their vote in favour of BJP candidate. We did not hold public meeting there.”
