Meerut: Two labourers were killed and two others injured after a gravel-laden dumper overturned on workers sleeping in an open field near Mubarikpur village in the Khurja area of Bulandshahr on Wednesday morning, police said.
Police said the incident occurred around 7 am when the dumper arrived for scheduled road construction work. While attempting to move forward to unload gravel, its wheels got stuck in loose soil, causing the vehicle to lose balance and topple.
Four workers were trapped under the dumper and the gravel. Co-workers rescued Vijay Kumar and Rakesh Singh and rushed them to a hospital. Rescue teams later recovered the bodies of Rakesh Kumar (30) and Pawan Banwari (35), both residents of Rahimkot village.
Circle officer Shobhit Kumar Attri said, "The bodies had been sent for post-mortem and no complaint had been filed so far." Police added that 10 workers were present at the site, but six had woken up shortly before the incident, narrowly escaping.
