MEERUT: Police on Friday arrested 15 people, including 10 women, for running a fake marriage bureau. The arrest came after police raided an office in a shopping complex in Meerut. Documents seized during the raid revealed that the gang had duped men from Haryana, Delhi, UP and Rajasthan.

According to the police, these women posed as prospective brides and their accomplices as family members to the clients. The bureau advertised through newspapers and charged Rs 8,500 one time fee for the service. Later, phone numbers were exchanged to shell out more. With time, relationships were deliberately sabotaged, leading to severance of matrimonial alliance.

ASP (crime) Anit Kumar said, "We detained ten women and five men who were employed at the bureau and worked as fake prospective brides. The owner of the bureau Neeraj Garg and manager Dimple Singh managed to escape. Four men from Delhi and Mathura, who were duped, had made a police complaint about the bureau on the basis of which the raid was conducted."

During the interrogation, the arrested individuals revealed that they received Rs 10k as monthly salary and lured clients into shelling out extra money. Police have constituted several teams to nab the main accused who is absconding.
