14 vehicles pile-up on Delhi-Doon e-way due to dense fog
Meerut: More than 14 vehicles collided with each other due to dense fog on the Delhi Akshardham-Baghpat expressway in Baghpat around 7:30am on Tuesday.The accident took place near Hasanpur Masuri Mavi Kala village in Khekra area when sudden thick fog reduced visibility to only a few metres. Police said the drivers failed to judge the distance between vehicles, resulting in multiple collisions, including cars and pick-up trucks. Some of the vehicles were badly damaged."Upon entering the e-way from Khekra cut, cars and other vehicles started colliding with each other as drivers couldn't see anything ahead of them. Some people suffered minor injuries," said Ramendra Singh, an eyewitness.Teams from Khekra police station, Baghpat Kotwali and the National Highways Authority of India reached the site with ambulances. Rescue operation was initiated, and at least 24 people were taken to Khekra community health centre, where most of them were discharged after first aid. Traffic on the e-way remained disrupted for some time.Baghpat SP Suraj Kumar Rai said senior officers reached the site, ensured medical aid to the injured and cleared the damaged vehicles from the highway. "Traffic was restored, and no fatality was reported. Incident was due to low visibility caused by dense fog," said Rai.The Delhi–Dehradun Green Expressway is currently operational from Akshardham to Baghpat, while the stretch from Baghpat to Dehradun remains closed.
