Yellow, orange alerts for coast

Mangaluru: The IMD has issued both yellow and orange alerts for the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada till Tuesday. Three places in Honnavar taluk of Uttara Kannada district on Monday received the highest rainfall in the state. They are: Kelginoor that recorded 149 mm of rainfall followed by Kharwa (143 mm) and Melina Idgunji (141mm). IMD predicted scattered and widespread light rainfall throughout the day. There were isolated heavy rains in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts in the evening. The IMD had already issued warning to fishermen not to venture into the sea earlier and now that has been extended till July 1, stating that squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely along and off Karnataka coasts. IMD also predicted very heavy rain of 115mm to 244 mm was likely at isolated places over Uttara Kannada district and 64mm to 115 mm at isolated places over Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of coastal Karnataka.Training workshop for teachers heldMangaluru: Shefins Trust, Udupi, which has started a special movement called Save Kannada Media Schools by teaching spoken English in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, aims to reach at least 300 schools in both the districts this year, said Manoj Kadaba, director of Shefins. He was presiding over the opening ceremony of the training workshop being held at Nalkemaru Government Higher Primary School, Bantwal Taluk, under the auspices of Aerya Alva Foundation for the interested teachers of Nalkemaru, Brahmarakootlu, and Ajjibettu government schools of Bantwal Taluk. “The training provided to teachers and students throughout the year is completely free and they only need donor support for the books. More than 30 schools have already promised to join hands in this movement. The next training will be held in Udupi district and it will start on July 8,’’ he added. The training workshop was inaugurated by Chandrahasa Shetty, chairman of the Nalkemaru School Adoption Committee.Doddangudde Market gets roofing Udupi: The newly constructed roofing facility for the Doddangudde market at Udupi was inaugurated recently. Robosoft Technologies undertook the construction of the entire roofing facility, using its CSR funds, in partnership with the department of horticulture. Ravi Teja Bommireddipalli, managing director and CEO of Robosoft inaugurated the facility and said the company is committed to giving back to the society and community. Free medical camp on anaemiaMangaluru: The Karnataka Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital here conducted a free anaemia medical camp on Monday. Dr Ravi Rao, principal, KAMC inaugurated the camp by lighting the lamp. The free medicines for the camp were prepared by Dr P Krishna Prasad Bhat, PG scholar, department of PG studies in Kayachikitsa as part of his research work. Many patients benefited from the camp.City civil engineer gets ACCE(I)awardMangaluru: The Association of Consultant Civil Engineers (India), Bengaluru conferred the national level ‘Eminent Engineer Award – 2023’ to Rajendra Kalbhavi, city-based civil engineer and executive director of DK Nirmiti Kendra Surathkal, for his overall achievements in the field civil engineering in particular and recognition of his innovative plan, design, research and construction in general. The award was presented to him during the ACCE(I) Annual Foundation Day Ceremony and Award Night Celebrations held recently at Nagpur. The national president Vijay K Sanap presented the award. About 500 delegates were present at the award presentation ceremony.
