Woman loses ₹1.6 lakh in online fraud
Mangaluru: A woman lost Rs 1.6 lakh in a Bitcoin fraud. The complainant received a message at 11pm on June 4 on Instagram, about investments and the profits to be earned, along with a link. She clicked on the link that was connected to an Instagram page. She was in touch with the accused through messages, and invested Rs 50,000 after she was assured Rs 4.9 lakh profit. At 11.19pm, the accused shared a screenshot that the complainant has received Rs 6.9 lakh bitcoins, and if the amount has to reach her, then she must transfer Rs 64,000 as trading payment, which she did. On the next day, she was told to transfer Rs 49,000 as 10% commission. Further, to confirm her Instagram account, the victim was told to edit her profile and send the details to an email ID. As soon as she did this, the Instagram account was hacked and a message was sent to the complainant’s friends asking them to make investments. A case has been registered at the CEN police station.
