MANGALORE: Though technology has helped transmission of knowledge to a great extent, the habit of reading and quest for acquiring knowledge has come down both among teachers and students, lamented B Surendra Rao, retired professor, department of history, Mangalore University.
Speaking after releasing the books published by Mangalore University's Prasaranga division here recently, he said the purpose of education would not be fulfilled if teachers and students confine themselves to classroom activities.
Real knowledge comes from self study. Every individual must have a quest for knowledge and reading is the only way of expanding the knowledge base.
Teachers fail to do justice to their profession if they fail to expand their knowledge base and do not help develop the habit of reading among students, he said.
Rao released eight books in Kannada including `Sthaliya Samskrithi Adyayana (Chandrashekhar Damle), `Grameena Makkala Maulyagalu Mathu Kalike Galikegala Nirvahane (Y Muniraju), `Anchikrutha Gumpugalu, Samasye Mathu Abhivrudhi (M Gurulingaiah), `Homoeopathy Aushadha Padhati (Prasanna Kumar), `Krishna Vivaragalu (A P Radhakrishna), `Karavali Karnatakada Abhivrudhi (G V Joshi), `Kannada Mathu Hindi Bhakthi Parampare (Sridhar Hegde), and `Manava Deha Rachane (G K Sudhakar) on the occasion.
