Student attempts 24-hour Kuchipudi dance for record

Mangaluru: A BSc student from Sullia completed the challenge of performing the classical Kuchipudi dance continuously for 24 hours in a bid to enter the ‘Golden Book of World Records'. Abhishek M Kanemaradka Mandekolu, a II BSc student from KVG Nehru Memorial College, Sullia, received the provisional certificate from the ‘Golden Book of World Records' for the "longest performance of Kuchipudi dance". He attempted this on April 11 and 12. Abhishek's performance was structured with a 15-minute break after every three hours, in accordance with the guidelines. Having trained in classical dance for 16 years, Abhishek has been learning Kuchipudi under the guidance of Suramya and Vaishnavi from Kanhangad, Kerala. He said that he drew inspiration from Remona Evette Pereira, who created history with a 170-hour Bharatanatyam dance and entered the ‘Golden Book of World Records' in Mangaluru. He is also currently preparing for his Vidhwath-grade exams in Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music. He aspires to pursue a PhD in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi.
