Mangaluru: The aim of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) is to build a healthy society, said
Gopal B Hosur, vice-president of IRCS,
Karnataka branch, and a retired IPS officer.
Hosur was addressing World Red Cross Day celebrations organised by
DK district unit of the IRCS, District Wenlock Hospital, Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Association, the Youth Red Cross Society of Yenepoya (Deemed University) and Mangalore University on Thursday.
On the occasion, volunteers of the Youth Red Cross Society were given awards and certificates.
“The IRCS has a rich history and people from all walks of life, irrespective of caste and creed, are part of it. It is spread over 200 countries. It grooms young people to develop leadership, values, and organisational skills,” said Hosur, adding that he was treated by Dr Nithyananda Shetty, a doctor native of Manglauru, when he was shot by forest brigand Veerappan. tnn
